Uji Matcha — Japan's Most Celebrated Ceremonial Matcha
Uji matcha is the most prized ceremonial-grade matcha in the world, grown in the historic region of Uji, just south of Kyoto, Japan. For over 800 years, Uji's farmers have cultivated matcha using time-honoured techniques — and it is from this region that Moicha sources its Superior and Premium ceremonial grades directly, from a family farm with over 180 years of expertise. No intermediaries. Full traceability. Exceptional quality in every cup.
What Makes Uji Matcha Special?
Uji's unique combination of misty climate, mineral-rich soil and pristine spring water creates ideal conditions for growing ceremonial-grade matcha. Tea plants are shaded for 20–30 days before harvest , boosting chlorophyll for that vivid green colour, increasing L-theanine for smooth, calm energy, and developing the sweet umami flavour Uji matcha is famous for. The result is a powder with no bitterness, exceptional depth of flavour, and a quality that simply can't be replicated elsewhere.
Just as Champagne can only come from France's Champagne region , authentic ceremonial matcha comes from Uji.
